Go home to your friends...
Mark 5:19. “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.”
The story found in Mark 5 is an amazing transformational story. An individual living in the graveyard, possessed by demons encounters Jesus and has his life changed forever. The town had tried to put chains on him so they could manage or control him, but that did not work. When we read about him, he is outside of town, an outcast. Jesus enters the scene and transforms his life. In Mark 5:15, the man is sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. What a transformation!
The transformation is miraculous for sure, but that is not where our focus is today. In verse 18 Jesus begins to depart and the man begs to go with Him. Note what Jesus says to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.” (Mark 5:19) Go home to those you know and tell them what the Lord has done for you. Talk with them about the mercy God has shown you. I can imagine that he was disappointed, but God had a plan for his life. That plan included him being a missionary to his hometown. I wonder what it was like as he told the story to the townspeople. Was there wonder, awe, shock, disbelief, or all of the above? The point today is that we all have a story to tell, and God has placed people in our life that need to hear it. Our story does not just include being saved. This is important and essential but there is more to our story than this. There is walking with Him every day. Talking about how God is working in us now and where He is leading us. The question for you is, ‘Who are you sharing with’ ?
