Give Thanks

Psalm 118:1

1 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!

For His mercy endures forever.

The word for ‘thanks’ in Psalm 118 above comes from a word that means to confess or to make know. The Psalm implores us in Psalm 118 to make know God’s goodness. It is easy to look at the physical provisions of life that God has provided for us and say thanks. We are thankful for family and friends. We are thankful for a home, a warm place to sleep. We are thankful for the food that God provides. We should however, during this season of thanksgiving make know our relationship with Jesus. Through our relationship with Jesus our sins have been forgiven. All of the nastiness we have committed is covered by the work of Jesus. Not only are our sins forgiven, but we hold a promise from God. A promise that He is always with us, that He will never leave us or forsake us. His spirit takes up residence in our lives when we are saved. He never leaves us. We are also promised a home beyond this world. Jesus said that He was going to prepare a place for us with Him. You see, Jesus wants to spend all of eternity with His children. Finally, He promised us He was coming back to carry us home. Whether we experience the physical death of this body or whether we are here on earth when Jesus calls time to be known more, we can rest assured our Savior is coming for us. In Ephesians, Paul says that we are given the spirit as the earnest of our inheritance. In other words, The Holy Spirit dwelling in us is His promise that He is coming back for us.

So, this Thanksgiving take time to make known God’s goodness in your life.
