Be A Blessing

A blessing is a pronouncement of the favor of God on someone. (Tyndale Bible Dictionary) Genesis 12:2 says, “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.” God blessed Abram. He pronounced that Abram had God’s favor. How amazing is it that God, our creator, gave Abram His favor? Abram did not do anything to acquire this favor, but God, out of His character, demonstrated love and grace. I could spend pages talking about God’s favor in our life and how unworthy we are, but today I want to point to the last portion of the verse in Genesis 12:2,

"And you shall be a blessing.”

God’s blessing is not just for us. His favor is to be given away. We are not ever going to run out of God’s blessings in our lives. We can afford to give it to others. The truth is, that God desires us to be a blessing to other people. This does not mean that we are a blessing to “good people” only, but we should be a blessing to unworthy people. This is because we too, are unworthy of God’s blessing. Abram had done nothing to deserve God’s blessing, but God bestowed it upon him. Abram messed up on many occasions and truly deserved to lose God’s blessing, but that is not the nature and character of God. Who are you a blessing to? Who outside of your family and outside of the church are you a blessing to? As a church how do we bless our community? How do the ministries we have bless others?

My heart’s desire is that Concord would be a blessing to our community? In so doing, we will demonstrate the love, care and grace of God to a world that is in need. Go be a blessing this week.
