Serving

Matthew 25:37-40

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Serving Jesus!  As I read the above words of Jesus and hear Him say, “you did it to Me”, I am moved.  The idea that as I serve in the community I am serving Him is a powerful image that we each need to keep in the forefront of our thoughts.  Have you ever served someone through the church or the food and clothing bank and thought, ‘they are taking advantage of the system?’  I have.  I am learning though, I don’t know all that is going on in their life.  I don’t know all that they have been through that lead them to that place.  My job is to serve.  When I serve others, it is as if I am serving Jesus directly.  I think about the woman that wept at the feet of Jesus and began to wash His feet with her hair and tears.  She was so overcome by the grace of God that she began to wash his feet.  She anointed them with costly perfume.  How about you and I as we serve, do we lavish grace on people.  Do we abundantly pour out God’s grace because we have experienced God’s grace when we did not deserve it?  From man’s perspective many of the people we serve do not deserve grace, but when you think about it, we did not deserve God’s grace either.  Share God’s grace abundantly with those God places in your life. Don’t judge them love them.  Our job is to be an instrument of grace in God’s hand.  God’s job is to transform their life.
