Growing at Concord When we come to know Christ as our savior our lives are forever changed. Quickly the question of “how do I live now comes?” One answer to that question is to live through service. In serving we are imitating Jesus. In John 13, Jesus washes the disciple’s feet. He demonstrates that following Him is not about a position or title but about serving others. What is particularly amazing is that Jesus even washes Judas’ feet. The man who in a few short hours would betray Him. We are prone to care for and serve those we deem worthy, but Jesus came to serve everyone. In John 13:15-17 Jesus says, 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. Jesus says three things. One He is our example. There are no excuses for not serving. Two, no one is too great or powerful to serve. Serving keeps us connected to people. Serving keeps us in a humble place. Serving keeps us looking to Jesus. Three, we are blessed if we serve. Service is as much about the person serving as it is about the person being served. Serving changes us. Serving helps us to buy into the focus of the ministry. We have all been and will all be in positions where we need to be served. Serving is one of the best ways to grow in your faith. Our thoughts are challenged. As we look inside, we may see thoughts and biases that need to be addressed. In serving, we have to address our attitudes about people that have hurt us or who are different from us. Serving causes us to run to Jesus because there is so much need. There are so many questions we cannot answer. Please know that there is a place for everyone to serve. Your church needs you. Pastor Scott
