What will your current pace of life do to your soul? The author John Mark Comer tells a story of an Englishman journeying into the Amazon wilderness. Prior to his departure he hired local men to carry his supplies. After a long hard day of walking through the amazon wilderness the men made it to camp. The next day the Englishman was ready to move forward but the local men on the expedition would not move. The Englishman becoming exasperated asked, “Why?”. The response was, “We are waiting on our souls to catch up”. The pace of life today is frantic. Technology has made us more efficient but that has only enabled us to cram more into each day. We become so busy, so hurried our relationship with one another and our relationship with God suffers. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God”. Psalm 23:1 paints a picture of peace, tranquility and slowed pace. On the seventh day of creation God rested. We should pause and take notice but most of us are saying to ourselves “I don’t have time”. The truth is you don’t have time not to pause. In Mark 1:32-35, we are told of an exhausting time of ministry. The entire town was at the house where Jesus was staying. Jesus was healing their loved ones and it appears this went on late into the night. The next morning, “35 having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” If Jesus, God in the flesh, needed this time with the Heavenly Father after a long day of ministry how much more so do you and I? I challenge you, pause and be with God. Give time for your soul to catch up to you and learn to kick the habit of hurry.
